Sprinkles Opens Cupcake ATM in Texas!
Ever attentive to your cupcake needs, Sprinkles Cupcakes opened a "cupcake ATM" next door to its shop in Preston Center. Now you can buy cupcakes without human intervention. It's Sprinkles' third cupcake ATM, behind Beverly Hills and Chicago.
The machine holds 350 cupcakes, and they're the same confections you get in the store. The ATM shares the store's daily menu, and it's restocked three times a day.
Customers select flavors via a touch screen. A robotic arm places the cupcake in a box while the machine sings, "I love Sprinkles, the best cupcakes in the world." The cupcakes cost $4 plus tax. Customers pay by swiping a credit card.
"I conceived the idea of an automatic cupcake machine after having late-night sugar cravings while pregnant with my second son," said Sprinkles founder Candace Nelson in a statement.
Preston Center is becoming Sprinkles-ville. This new ATM is next door to the future location of Sprinkles Ice Cream, which opens in mid-August. Until its opening, the cupcake ATM will spit out one coupon per day good for a $50 Sprinkles Ice Cream gift card.
Lest you think this is silly, check out Sprinkles' Facebook page, where the company has posted a photo of people lined up on Friday night just so they can try this exotic new merchandising experience. Because a cupcake never tasted so good as one procured via a mechanical arm.
